INTERMOUNTAIN PI | 4/7/2020 | PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR SELF IMPROVEMENT DURING CORONAVIRUS
For eight months during World War II, the Nazi’s conducted an unrelenting bombing strike on London. The Blitz, as these nightly bombings were called, killed an estimated 40,000 to 43,000 civilians. Hitler’s strategy was to break the will of the British people. However, he didn’t count on the famous stiff upper lip of the Brits; that famous fortitude and stoicism. In the final analysis, Hitler’s strategy failed.
With this in mind, you and I are facing a similar threat. As of the date of this post, Coronavirus has killed more than the Blitz did in 1940. Notably, the economy is suffering. Perhaps your work has slowed considerably. For this reason, you may have extra time to focus on private investigator self improvement during Coronavirus. Consider the following suggestions:
First, there are some incredible private investigator podcasts available. For example, PI Magazine The Podcast; my friend Matt Spaier’s podcast, PI Perspectives; and PI’s Declassified! Additionally, The Covert Investigator; Catherine Townsend’s podcast, Hell and Gone; and my friend John A. Hoda’s podcast, My Favorite Detective Stories.
Finally, my friend (I have a lot of friends) Hal Humphreys’ two podcasts, The Sound of Pursuit and Taking the P.I.S – Profane. Irreverent. Snarky. Moreover, while not hosted by private investigators, FBI Retired Case File Review; Small Town Dicks, and Jensen and Holes: The Murder Squad are all excellent. Regardless of your level of experience, you’ll learn something from each of these podcasts.
Next, you can learn something from private investigator blogs; the less attractive stepchild of podcasts. For instance, Brian Willingham’s Diligentia Group Blog; Mile Hi PI Blog, and Mike Spencer’s blog. Furthermore, Guns, Gams & Gumshoes as well as Kusic and Kusic. Lastly, PI Buzz.
BOOKS AND AUDIO BOOKS
Before podcasts and blogs people actually read books. In fact, they still do. Mostly. However, now there’s audio books. Audible offers an amazing section of business books. You can also learn from the life of other private investigators. Notably, Jay J. Armes Investigator; The Setup by Peter Crooks, and Prophet’s Prey by Utah private Investigator Sam Brower.
WEBINARS AND ON-LINE TRAINING COURSES
Of course, this is also the perfect time for webinars and on-line training courses. By all means, check out PI Education from the folks at Pursuit Magazine. They offer great courses at reasonable prices. Cynthia Hetherington’s company offers advanced training and webinars for private investigators. Finally, PInow has a list of all secondary institutions with private investigator training programs. Likewise, private investigator self improvement during coronavirus extends to magazines and websites.
MAGAZINES, EZINES AND WEBSITES
Similarly, the top three private investigator periodicals offer a wealth of knowledge. Indeed, you should be subscribing to PI Magazine and checking the other two, namely Pursuit Magazine and PInow.com monthly.
Equally important are the numerous email newsgroups on LinkedIn and Facebook. They cover every private investigator topic imaginable. As an illustration, PInow PI Community; Private Investigator, and the Private Investigator and Security Group. Late last year Yahoo discontinued Yahoo Groups. Many of the Yahoo Groups migrated to either LinkedIn or Facebook.
By the way, this is my third post about working during Coronavirus. First, I posted about business continuity. Second, I posted about private investigator tools. Finally, this pandemic will be over soon. Keep the faith.
Until next time, this is Private Investigator Scott Fulmer reminding you the game…is afoot
